Ros Conkie
Making Conversations about Engineering Count!
Ros Conkie trained as a mechanical engineer, and today she runs marketing the way she was taught to run engineering: start with a specification, design the process, test it, measure it and improve it.
In this conversation, Ros and Wendy talk about taking marketing from a gamble to an investment, why defining your ideal client means looking beyond demographics, how risk shapes the way people buy, and why marketing is really about building relationships. They also get into knowing your numbers, choosing KPIs that actually matter and working in 90 day plans.
Ros’s conversation that counted came early in her career, at a small robotics company in Bristol, when her managing director told her he thought she would be good at marketing and sales. She didn’t want to hear it. Years later, she realised good marketing is structured, methodical and measured, just like engineering.
“Bad marketing is fluff. But good marketing is actually very structured and methodical.”
