Professor Kevin Singh
Making Conversations about Education Count!
Professor Kevin Singh is head of the Manchester School of Architecture, a joint school between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester, and also runs an architecture practice.
In this conversation, Kevin and Wendy talk about having the career you want rather than the one you think you should have, why comparing yourself to others leads to disappointment, and why vision and taking responsibility sit at the heart of his leadership. They also talk about how professional higher education has become, the student experience, and the difference between leading and managing.
Kevin’s conversation that counted came in the mid-90s, when he was leading the student society at the Birmingham School of Architecture. With a room of around 200 people waiting and his guest speakers running late, one of his tutors explained why he was feeling the pressure: responsibility is what you assume.
“Comparisons tend to lead to disappointment.”
